Mind Own Business

Found a guide of sorts the other day. It declared that the ambition I would like to make is made best when minding my own business.

Honestly, at first glance, I thought that is simple enough. But, a week later I sat down to inventory my own business and realized that I had spent a good deal of time that week minding way too many other businesses under the sun.

The good news is now I know that there is a lot of room for improvement in this area. A lot of room! I almost feel like my entire professional training and specialization has been geared towards opposite world in this area.

Maybe this is what is meant by it takes a long time to turn the Titanic?

Left Hero for Theiro

It happened almost the moment we could see the floor coming to greet our human cannon ball. Just a short while before, it seemingly made perfect sense packing ourselves into the caped suit. It wasn’t so much the applause or the raining fortunes sure to follow the successful launch as it was we just couldn’t see any other way. O’, how their perspective would have benefited us had the crash helmet not so muffled their voices.

BOOM! Returns onto the Road

Kichwa Tembo

It can nearly become too serious and tragic business when one starts to lose their sense of humor about this whole safari thing. Just cruising along, dreaming of elephants and rhinoceroses. Then, BOOM! Why not become a lion tamer?

Why not show that lion a trick or two? What’s the lion pride strutting around for anyway? Surely, we could better manage the circus, right?

It’s a nice, tough lesson to learn that there is something to be said for just cruising along, dreaming of elephants and rhinoceroses.

Mobile

Roadtrip Rolls On

This picture offers a friendly reminder that local mobile is ever changing. What used to carry the small business owner back and forth to the shop and to his or her customers is probably not working as well as it used to. In fact, it may even be so broken that you have resigned yourself and are now considering nothing more than turning the old way into a roadside art attraction. Just saying it can happen to even the best of Cadillacs.

We’re now out and about exploring with small business owners some new ideas how to make lemonade out of lemons. See the change that is happening can be the worst thing that ever happened or the best thing depending solely on whether or not you find new ways to change too.

We’re not saying it is gonna be easy. We’re just saying it is gonna be.

Local Connection

After 15 years of full service and express car washing, it just felt like it was time for a break. Times were changing and the writing was on the wall. Local business, it seemed, was going roadtripN for a while as everyone pulled stakes and dove headfirst into their mobile phones. Time to pull up a hammock and sway in the breeze for a while. Time to get away from it all and let the dust settle a little.

That lasted all of about three weeks. It wasn’t necessarily the car washing that we missed. We missed the sense of community and belonging. We missed the creating something different and unique and local with flavor and creativity that stood out from the pack. But, just what to create?

So, we traveled and we traveled. We went to a variety of trade shows. We read up on the newest trends and listened to the myriad of views as to what the future holds in store. We dabbled a little here and there. We painted, wrote, swam, and nearly drowned.

Then, we had the eureka moment. Back to the canvas, time to throw all in to go against the grain. Put everything into bringing local connection back. Put everything in because the world is gonna miss the little guys, the mom and pops, the zany ideas they have if we don’t come together with a way to embrace our local ecosystems again.

We’re back! We’re not done roadtripN. It is part of the package. But from here on out to wherever this road is taking us, we’re going to give everything we can muster to highlight the small business next door. Honestly, we don’t know if the small biz is going to win. We just can’t stomach what seems will happen if he and she can’t find a place to at least make a healthy go at it.

We love local connection! It’s the why we now see for washing cars for all those years. We’re back in the local mobile game starting from the hub we know so well. Tap us on the shoulder, we’re ready to push alongside.
