Designers

Designers get their hands dirty. They get into the work. They dive into the code. They jump into the deep end and then start figuring out how to paddle.

Designers are the ones that don’t just theorize their solution, they live it. They get that if their theories aren’t able to be realized, then what’s the point?

Designers are the ones that stand on newly finished designs.

New designs are under way. Stay tuned for features from the designers making it happen.

Recreators

Today is the first day of the new expedition. Going forward from this moment, we are going to periodically add new stories here of the Recreators.

Recreators are the ones that step forward and say, “Not only do I see a different way to go about our venturing, but I’m going there.”

Recreators are the ones that go there, take the action, see the change.

Recreators are the ones that seek not only their own benefit, but seek the benefit of everyone around them.

Going forward, we are going to go meet these recreators and we are going to share their stories. We are going to share in their work. We are going to share in their resourcing. We are going to share in getting to the new ground.

If you are a recreator, an entrepreneur, a startup seeking to accelerate – give us a shout. We are ready to join in the recreation.

Neighborhood

experimental-signage

Today, we’re launching out new ways to give our neighborhoods the hyper-local mobile signage they desperately need. The truth of the matter is that our local entrepreneurs are getting lost in the noise and swamped in the spam. These right-around-the-corner small business owners would love to reach out to you in an authentic and open manner, but the thing is they just can’t be heard anymore. The ruckus currently is deafening and desensitizing. Even if your business is trusted and well respected in our local circles, we simply do not have the time nor energy nor willingness to read your facebook posts or direct messages or really any other form of communication. We’re already inundated with the most inane buzzfeed videos and twitter follower salesmen and push notifications saying that our apps really haven’t seen us as often as they would like. Sorry, we love you and will most definitely miss you in the neighborhood when you’re gone, but we’re really busy tracking our Amazon order to see if it’s still on-time.

Mobile

Roadtrip Rolls On

This picture offers a friendly reminder that local mobile is ever changing. What used to carry the small business owner back and forth to the shop and to his or her customers is probably not working as well as it used to. In fact, it may even be so broken that you have resigned yourself and are now considering nothing more than turning the old way into a roadside art attraction. Just saying it can happen to even the best of Cadillacs.

We’re now out and about exploring with small business owners some new ideas how to make lemonade out of lemons. See the change that is happening can be the worst thing that ever happened or the best thing depending solely on whether or not you find new ways to change too.

We’re not saying it is gonna be easy. We’re just saying it is gonna be.

Local Connection

stacks_image_338

After 15 years of full service and express car washing, it just felt like it was time for a break. Times were changing and the writing was on the wall. Local business, it seemed, was going roadtripN for a while as everyone pulled stakes and dove headfirst into their mobile phones. Time to pull up a hammock and sway in the breeze for a while. Time to get away from it all and let the dust settle a little.

That lasted all of about three weeks. It wasn’t necessarily the car washing that we missed. We missed the sense of community and belonging. We missed the creating something different and unique and local with flavor and creativity that stood out from the pack. But, just what to create?

So, we traveled and we traveled. We went to a variety of trade shows. We read up on the newest trends and listened to the myriad of views as to what the future holds in store. We dabbled a little here and there. We painted, wrote, swam, and nearly drowned.

Then, we had the eureka moment. Back to the canvas, time to throw all in to go against the grain. Put everything into bringing local connection back. Put everything in because the world is gonna miss the little guys, the mom and pops, the zany ideas they have if we don’t come together with a way to embrace our local ecosystems again.

We’re back! We’re not done roadtripN. It is part of the package. But from here on out to wherever this road is taking us, we’re going to give everything we can muster to highlight the small business next door. Honestly, we don’t know if the small biz is going to win. We just can’t stomach what seems will happen if he and she can’t find a place to at least make a healthy go at it.

We love local connection! It’s the why we now see for washing cars for all those years. We’re back in the local mobile game starting from the hub we know so well. Tap us on the shoulder, we’re ready to push alongside.

Spacewalks

Road

Can you picture yourself on a Spacewalk? Doesn’t this seem highly impossible and unlikely? Totally foreign? Totally frightening?

For men who really want to get off the bench, we invite you to join us for a four-part conversation where we explore 1-on-1:

– Where do we find ourselves now?

– Where are we headed?

– Where are we in need of development?

– Where are we taking action to move forward?

For many of the reasons we highlighted above, we call this series – “Spacewalks”. We admit these conversations probably look scary at first glance. Compared to an actual spacewalk though, isn’t this really more like a walk in the park?

Blastoff

100_2801

Blastoff for us means prayers are finally getting off the ground. Blastoff started ten years ago for us as we joined together in a far away mission field. It was here that we began to learn just how far away we were from rebuilding foundations and communities out of our past. It was here that we first caught a glimpse that we were trying to rebuild foundations and communities totally out of our minds.

Today, ten years later, what we are intent and really hope to share with others is just how we came to see the lights go on.

It has been such a wild ride just getting here. We can only imagine, as these rocket boosters kick in, the blast off is going to be even more amazing.

Launchpad

love large

This week, ten years of effort and starts and re-starts in search of a transparent liftoff find us standing on the launchpad. The invitations have gone out and the agenda is set in place. We’re in countdown mode…finally.

Now, as with any launch, we know that anything could actually happen. We could lose oxygen. We could have our suit ripped to shreds. We could fail the experiment.

Yet, we are excited as all get out to blast off. We recognize that we are now here because of nothing that we have done. If the ten years have taught us anything, they’ve taught us this.

We are hopeful men come forward and find a breath of fresh air. Owderblue is about to be realized.

Glowing

DSC_1140

Being available to our families today is such a gift. Basking in the glow that is showing love to those angels who stuck with us through thick and thin. Thankful the lights went on in our lives. Thankful for the purpose we now have to share in the rebuilding of foundations while making such good use of our past experiences.

What a design! What grace! Thank you for flooding our emptiness!
